With its corporate headquarters in Leeds, England, Asda Stores Ltd., frequently abbreviated as ASDA, is a British supermarket business. Sir Noel Stockdale, Peter Asquith, and Fred Asquith formed the business on February 19, 1949. Asda was founded as a result of a merger between the Asquith family's retail business and the Yorkshire-based Associated Dairies enterprise. The corporation gradually increased its presence in Southern England in the 1970s and 1980s by acquiring several companies, including Allied Carpets, 61 sizable Gateway Supermarkets, and MFI Group. However, the firm opted to focus on supermarkets in the 1990s, thus these assets were sold. Asda was traded on the London Stock Exchange up until 1999 when Walmart paid £6.7 billion to buy the company.

Between 2003 and 2014, Asda held the second-largest market share among British supermarket chains before slipping to third place. Groceries, general items, financial services offered under the Asda Money brand, and a mobile virtual network operator are just a few of the many goods and services that the company provides. Asda was acquired by the Issa brothers and TDR Capital in February 2021, although Walmart kept an equity stake in the company, a board seat, and a continuing business partnership.

Over the years, Asda has significantly improved its operations. As of December 8th, 2021, the corporation had 633 sites throughout the United Kingdom. It provides services including Asda Mobile and Asda Money and has several divisions and subsidiaries, including George and Asda Living. In 2022, Asda reported revenues of £20.4 billion (excluding fuel) and operating profitability of £886 million. As of 2022, 145,000 people will be employed by the business, which is now owned by Mohsin and Zuber Issa, TDR Capital, and Walmart.
