The brand Cowshed was created with the straightforward goal of bringing a little bit of rural peace into peoples' busy lives. As distinctive as the brand's name, Soho House founder Nick Jones first had the idea for a wellness getaway within a retreat at Babington House in an ancient cowshed. As an extension of the House's hospitality, the original Cowshed Spa was built with an emphasis on the health and well-being of visitors. Richard Howard, a perfumer, created products exclusively for the spa using components from the property's Victorian walled garden. The development of the Cowshed product line was sparked by visitors' desire to utilise these items at home due to their professional formulas, ecological benefits, and medicinal qualities.

Since its founding in 1998, Cowshed has expanded to become a global network of spas and Soho House sites, including those in Berlin, Miami, London, New York, and, most recently, Amsterdam.
