In Bury St. Edmunds, Suffolk, England, there is a well-known pub retailer and brewer by the name of Greene King. The business, which Benjamin Greene created in 1799, is the owner of numerous bars, eateries, and hotels. Before being purchased by CK Assets in October 2019, it was openly traded on the London Stock Exchange. The business is well known for its brews, especially Greene King IPA and Abbot Ale, two of the top-selling cask ales in the United Kingdom.

Through a series of mergers and acquisitions over the years, Greene King has grown, taking over businesses including Rayments Brewery, the Magic Pub Company, and Morland Brewery, among others. The purchase of the Spirit Pub Company in 2015, which brought Greene King's total number of locations to 3,116 and made it the largest managed pub company in the UK, was a significant deal.

Greene King has brewing and retail businesses in addition to its commitment to social responsibility. Through its Greene King Apprenticeship Programme, which has completed the processing of around 9,000 apprentices, it has supported apprenticeships since 2011. In collaboration with The Prince's Trust, it introduced the Get Into Hospitality Programme in 2016, which aims to fill the skills and experience gaps that keep unemployed people from finding employment. The Craft Academy, an 18-month brewing project run by apprentices, was introduced by Greene King in 2017. Through it, students can achieve a Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Sales while learning about brewing, design, and marketing.
