A well-known international fast-casual restaurant brand from South Africa, Nando's is known for its flame-grilled peri-peri chicken. Fernando Duarte and Robert Brozin founded the company in Johannesburg in 1987, and since then it has expanded to manage over 1,200 shops in 30 countries. The Rooster of Barcelos, one of Portugal's most well-known emblems, is depicted in the company's logo, which also acts as a sort of mascot. The eatery was formerly known as Chickenland, a Portuguese-Mozambican takeaway that was bought and renamed Nando's in honour of Fernando's firstborn kid.

Nando's made its debut in the UK in 1992, with the opening of its first locations in the west London areas of Earls Court and Ealing. The UK division, which the Enthoven family held through a private equity firm, initially specialised in takeaway food. But under Robert Enthoven's direction, the emphasis switched to a mixed service style (counter ordering and table service). In the UK, Nando's employed over 8,000 people as of 2013, and it has more than 280 locations, roughly sixty of which served food compliant with Islamic dietary rules.

The fast-food industry in the UK has been significantly impacted by Nando's. It was recognised by Advertising Age magazine as one of the top 30 hottest marketing brands in the globe in 2010. The Guardian credited Nando’s with altering the perception of British fast food in the same year. Additionally, the company has more than 5,000 pieces of South African art on display in its restaurants, making it the largest collection in the UK. Despite COVID-19-related temporary closures and a brief chicken shortage in 2021, Nando's is still a well-liked brand in the UK, which is still its biggest market.
